Quiet on Set

This past week I helped out at a local TV station during their live day long coverage of May Day. It was interesting to heard the different reports from around the country. During the moments before going live, I was able to take a few quick portraits of the crew and staff.

Flatland: A Wedding, Deconstructed

Recently I received a call from RJ Kern of Kern-Photo to help film and edit a ‘behind-the-scene’ video. He and Amanda Tipton of Kokoro Photography were doing a test shoot using state-of-the-art camera technology and, to add to the complexity, the camera was going to be sixteen feet off the ground. How could I say no, besides I admire RJ’s and Amanda’s work. In fact RJ photographed my family portraits last year.

I arrived on set to meet Brian Martinez the other cinematographer. We couldn’t wait to see how this would turn out. Within minutes of filming RJ provided the perfect out-take. Everyone laughed along with RJ as he shook off a humbling experience.

Amanda was hard at work getting the models and props ready. She has an eye for details like no other photographer. Her job to make a three dimensional scene look two dimensional was not easy. Then it was posing the models on the floor to look as if they were upright. Lots of challenges for all.
